I like winners

Today, on a track far from Athens, my parents’ race horse , Dashing By By had glory of her very own. She won the Certified North Dakota Bred Quarter Horse Derby.

Craptastic

I added more memory to my laptop as well as did a fresh install of WinXP Pro.

It did not go well.

UPDATE: All systems are a go. Everything’s working fantastically, except for some wifi interference from a nearby network and a little font glitch.

To Whom It May Concern: Vol II

Dear Whiny Olympic Diving Commentator,

You’re annoying. Shut up.

You make me want to not watch the men’s platform diving semifinals. At least Bart Connors won a gold in the event he commentates for.

Sincerely yours,

Nicole Swan

because I need to play Commander Keen 2

This is the coolest thing ever. I’m totally installing Commander Keen now. Oh wait, I don’t have a 5.25 inch floppy drive. (I kid. Of course, I’m just going to download it.)

But then I’m going to fire it up with Soundblaster and some quality VGA graphics and revel in DOS heaven.

Afterthought: What is this? Is it some sort of hybrid of Commander Keen and Quake III, because that would just make my night.

my kind of night

So after working 11.5 hours, baking, doing laundry, and making myself some dinner, I finally had dinner on my plate. I took barely one step before (in slow motion as is customary) my plate shifted and took its slow tumble to the kitchen floor. Plate ruined. Enchilada ruined. And a mess of pottery, tortilla, and enchilada sauce to clean up. I may or may not have taken The Lord’s name in vain.

This sure has been my month.

the post in which I whore myself out for a free iPod

*****************************************************
Lordy, lordy. I am so close on this. I just need one more person to complete an offer. Any takers? For the trouble you’ll get, um, my undying gratitude?
*****************************************************
If you want to help me out, follow the referrer link below. Word is, everything works better in IE.

Follow this to help me get an iPod

(I’m so lame. Wouldn’t my mother be proud?)

Update: I know I have one completed offer for sure. If you have completed an offer, could you let me know in the comments? Thanks!

Update #2: I now have two completed offers. Oh, the agony…

mistake

An email to Good Morning America (GMA) from yours truly on the eve of July 23rd:

On yesterday’s show (07/21/04), GMA showed a news clip about the Sandy Berger controversy. The segment featured clips of many legislative representatives commenting on the controversy. Included among those senators and house representatives, was Senator Tom Daschle. However, the caption noted “Sen. Tom Daschle, (D) North Dakota.” A 3-second search (on Google, for example), would have yielded the information that he, in fact, represents SOUTH Dakota. This mistake is made all the more egregious since he is the Senate Minority Leader and for a time was the Senate Majority Leader.

As less-populated states are already under-represented in the media, future attention to details such as this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes, South Dakota is a state — it’s not just a region of the Dakota Territory.

Note: I originally started this post in late July.

The Avatar: Reloaded

Nicole the Avatar -- next genIn May, when Yahoo Avatars launched, I made the first generation Nicole the Avatar. At the time, there were not very many options for customization. As you can see, I went back recently to update my avatar. I managed to get the hair a little closer and the clothes to the proper level of casualness. Oddly enough, the PDA came with the white tank top. I also had to throw in the office background given that, as of late, I’ve been spending most of my time there.

Now I just need to wait for there to be accessories besides pink purses and dangly earrings available for female avatars.
