Economics or Bust

It simply amazes me how many people do not understand simple economics. I think every person should have to take an economics course before being able to register to vote. Even better, they should have to also take a political economy course. I guess I’m just a frustrated economics geek. Speaking of geeks, ThinkGeek.com has the coolest travel mug emblazoned with the saying “No I Will Not Fix Your Computer.” I need one of those, or better yet, one that says “No I Will Not Create A Website For You For Free.” Just because I know HTML doesn’t mean I’m into pro bono work. I’m one of those capitalist pigs.

On a different note, I think I’ve found a webhost for my future site, nicoleswan.com. For a very minimal monthly payment, I can get all of the features I want (read: JSP – may not ever incorporate it in my site, but I’d like to leave the option open). I will probably also put my parents’ business site there as well. I would reveal the host’s name, but why endorse them or give them advertising until I’ve tried it out? I don’t need the one person who may visit my site in the next month, reading the name and being mad at me when it doesn’t work out.

Monday morning

Ah, it’s once again Monday. That means early class for me. I don’t really have anything profound to say today, just thought I’d slap an entry in here as it’s been over a week since my last entry.

On a completely different subject, I’m really getting sick of spammers signing my guestbook. No, I do not want to advocate any porn, drug, or cheating sites through my guestbook. This only further convicts me to continue to screen my guestbook entries. If you’ve ever signed my guestbook, you may have noticed that your entry doesn’t appear right away. That’s because they don’t display until I run a script to do so. In the interim, I delete or significantly edit any “spam” entries. On the same subject, someone recently signed my guestbook and left their website URL (an actual legitimate non-porn website, woohoo). So I checked it out, and he had a guest map (provided by Bravenet) on his site. It shows a map of the world including little icons showing the various locations of the guestbook signers. It’s really quite neat.

Well, that is all. I must get back to work now.

Man it’s been a long time…

So it’s my birthday. That’s right folks. I’m 22 today. What better day is there to put an entry in my weblog? I’m really sorry about my laziness in regards to this weblog. It’s annoying to me when people don’t update their webpages, but yet I do it. I’m a doggone hypocrit. However, it’s a little lame that I’m doing this on the night of my day of birth while I sit at home alone avoiding reading I need to do for class.

Even more lame is that I’ve been wandering on the net checking out the webpages of old Real Worlders — Melissa and Matt from New Orleans, Colin from Hawaii. It makes me wonder. How long can these people live on their 15 minutes of fame? Matt and Colin seem super chill and actually have ambitions other than being an actor. But visit the MTV site and check out what RWs are doing now and you’ll see that most are aspiring actors/actresses. Here’s an idea: actually come back down to the real world.

I’m sorry if this seems harsh; perhaps I am just jealous. After all, I’ve never really put myself out on a limb like that. I couldn’t imagine dropping everything right now to be on the Real World. What about graduating from college, my scholarships, job, etc? I’m a stick in the mud as they say. I’ve always done exactly what is expected of me, even more. I can’t tell anyone I’m too busy to help them or that I don’t have time. I have to keep my 4.0 average (a B is just unacceptable). And my life is like a to-do list. I want to be a multi-millionaire someday — in order to be able to own my own sports team, but sometimes it just seems like it’s not worth it. Maybe I should just become a beach bum and live a nomad’s life. Would that be so bad?

Wow. That was way too deep for my birthday entry. I seem to have been “waxing philosophical” as they say. Oh..one last thing. Happy 30th birthday to my boss Joe (Jan 18th).
